Après-ski in Mammoth

After a day on the slopes at Mammoth Mountain, there’s nothing quite like unwinding with some après-ski fun. Whether you’re craving live music, delicious food, or a cozy atmosphere to relax and reminisce about your day on the mountain, Mammoth Lakes has something for everyone. As your home away from home, the Alpenhof Lodge is perfectly situated across the street from the Village at Mammoth, placing you within easy reach of some of the best local après spots. After your après (or perhaps après après?!), return to our cozy, European-style resort for a good night’s sleep. If you’ve never heard of après-ski, or are planning your first trip to Mammoth Lakes, we’ve got you covered!

“Après-ski,” meaning “after ski,” is a cherished tradition with roots in the 19th-century Swiss Alps. Initially a simple warm-up with hot tea, it evolved in the mid-20th century into a social phenomenon with alcohol-fueled dance parties and stylish attire. Today, après-ski encompasses a diverse range of activities, from casual gatherings to vibrant nightlife. While it often starts in the late afternoon, the duration and formality vary greatly. Attire is equally flexible, ranging from casual ski wear to more stylish outfits. Importantly, après-ski is no longer solely for skiers. Non-skiers are equally welcome to join the festivities, making it akin to an extended happy hour or a lively social gathering. The essence of après-ski lies in the camaraderie, the shared stories of the day on the slopes (or enjoying the mountain views!), and the joy of celebrating the mountain experience.
