Welcome to spring! The change of season brings the beginning of some activities and the end of others.
MAMMOTH LAKES ROAD & TRANSPORTATION UPDATES
When embarking on a springtime drive to Mammoth Lakes, be sure to check updates frequently, as this is the season when passes begin to open.
Road Updates
Please Note: Mammoth Lakes can receive early season and late season storms that may cause roads to close temporarily. Please check the CalTrans website or utilize their QuickMap App for current Road Conditions, as road status may change.
- Mammoth Lakes Basin Roads – Roads in the Lakes Basin have been plowed for administrative access. If you bike or walk on the road, please use caution.
- Hwy. 120 (Tioga Pass) to Yosemite National Park – Open. Please check the Yosemite National Park website for more information. For current road conditions, please call (209) 372-0200.
- Hwy. 158 (June Lake Loop) – Open.
- Hwy. 108 (Sonora Pass) – Closed for the season.
- Hwy. 89 (Monitor Pass) – Open.
- Hwy. 270 (Bodie Rd.) – Open. For more information, please call 760-616-5040.
- Rock Creek Road – Open to the pack station.
- Hwy. 203 to Minaret Vista – Closed for the season.
- Hwy. 203 to Reds Meadow (Devils Postpile & Rainbow Falls) – Open limited days. More info here.

Regional Transportation
Yosemite Area Regional Transit System (YARTS) with service to Yosemite National Park – Closed for the season.
Tours of Yosemite National Park and Bodie State Historic Park are available via MAWS Transportation during the summer months.
Local Transportation
Explore Mammoth Lakes hassle-free with FREE transit options. Hop on the Mammoth Bike Park shuttle to Main Lodge or the Lakes Basin Trolley for access to the Mammoth Lakes Basin. If you’re headed to The Village at Mammoth Lakes from your hotel, house, or condo, check the summer bus schedule to see which bus line services your neighborhood. Get all the details by visiting the Eastern Sierra Transit website.
Catch the Lakes Basin Trolley with service to the Mammoth Lakes Basin, operating 7:30 am-6:00 pm, every 30 minutes from The Village. There is limited parking in the Lakes Basin, so opt for public transit. Check the ESTA website for seasonal route schedules.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES IN MAMMOTH LAKES
Many activities are now beginning to reopen as winter closures wind down. Stay tuned for updates on anticipated openings for spring/summer 2024.
Reds Meadow Area
Reds Meadow is undergoing reconstruction. Read all about the changes to access in summer 2024 here.
Hiking
Trails are open to hikers year-round, weather permitting. Check the Mammoth Lakes Trail System website for current trail conditions or contact the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center before venturing out.
Fishing
Fishing season in Mono County opened on April, 27 2024. Please check updated restrictions before fishing.
Biking
Mammoth Bike Park – Scheduled to open on May 24, 2024, weather and conditions permitting. For more information, visit Mammoth Mountain’s website.
Public bike trails are open to bikers year-round, weather permitting. Check the Mammoth Lakes Trail System website for current trail conditions. Bike rentals are available in spring, summer, and fall months, weather permitting. Learn more about where to rent bikes here.
Boating, Kayaking & Paddleboarding
Rentals are available throughout the summer. Learn more about where to rent boats, kayaks and paddleboards here. Please note that the marinas in the Lakes Basin are closed for winter.
Golf
Snowcreek Driving Range – Open.
Snowcreek Golf Course (9 holes) – Scheduled to open on May 24, 2024.
Sierra Star Golf Course (18 holes) – Scheduled to open on May 24, 2024.
Horseback Riding
Mammoth Lakes Pack Outfit (Mammoth Lakes Basin) – Closed for winter.
Camping
U.S. Forest Service campgrounds, as well as privately run campgrounds in Mono County, are open for the season. The Mammoth Mountain RV Park is open year-round with limited services in the winter. Learn more about the U.S Forest Service campgrounds here.
Camping will be extremely limited in Mammoth Lakes until we are able to open more campgrounds. If you do not currently have a campground reservation, please consider a traditional lodging option. You can also find other campgrounds throughout the region by checking the Camp Like a Pro website.
Other Summer Activities
Panorama Gondola at Mammoth Mountain – Open.
Via Ferrata – Scheduled to open on June 29, 2024
Mammoth Adventure Center – Scheduled to open for weekends on May 24, with daily service starting on June 14.
Whitmore Pool – Closed for winter.
Whitmore Track and Field – Open.
The Mammoth Lakes California Welcome Center – Open daily 8am – 5pm.
The Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center – Open.
The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center – Open.
