Mono County Spring Road Update- Tioga Pass and Red Meadows

Spring in Mono County means travelers are eagerly anticipating the reopening of Tioga Pass, a scenic route connecting the Eastern Sierra with Yosemite National Park. Meanwhile, exciting updates are underway as Reds Meadow Road undergoes reconstruction to enhance public access and safety. Amidst these transformations, there’s no better time to plan your escape to Alpenhof Lodge, where cozy accommodations and warm hospitality await.

Tioga Pass

One of the highlights of spring travel in Mono County is the reopening of Tioga Pass. This scenic route, which connects the Eastern Sierra with Yosemite National Park, is closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall. As the snow melts and the days grow warmer, the road is cleared, allowing travelers to once again journey through this breathtaking corridor.

Tioga Pass typically opens sometime in late May to early June, but the exact date varies each year depending on snowfall and road conditions. Keep an eye on updates from the National Park Service or Caltrans for the most current travel information.

Reds Meadow Reconstruction Project

Reds Meadow Road is undergoing reconstruction to significantly enhance public access and traffic safety for all visitors, reduce the risk of vehicular accidents, and improve emergency response times. The U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service (Devils Postpile National Monument – DEPO) are grateful for your patience and cooperation during this important project, which includes stabilizing the hillside.Currently closed to wheeled vehicles for the regular winter season, Reds Meadow Road is expected to reopen on June 7, 2024, weather permitting. During this time, construction activities will not cause delays, but access to Reds Meadow will still require the mandatory ESTA Shuttle Bus. For more information, click HERE.
